Nizza (franz. Nice) ist eine Hafenstadt in Südfrankreich, unweit der Grenze zu Italien zwischen Cannes und Monaco an der Côte d'Azur am Mittelmeer gelegen. Nizza ist die Präfektur (franz. préfecture - Verwaltungshauptsitz) des Départements Alpes-Maritimes.
Zusammen mit 23 umliegenden Gemeinden bildet Nizza die Communauté d'agglomération de Nice-Côte d'Azur.

Geografie
Nizza liegt im Südosten Frankreichs und in der direkten Verlängerung des Mercantour-Massivs, im Westen vom Var-Tal und im Osten vom Mont Boron begrenzt, und ist zirka 10 Kilometer vom Fürstentum Monaco und zirka 30 Kilometer von der italienischen Grenze entfernt.
Klima und Lokalgeographie
Durch die geschützte Lage ist Nizza auch im Winter einer der wärmsten Orte an der französischen Côte d'Azur. Die angenehmsten Reisemonate sind der Mai und Mitte September bis Mitte Oktober.
Die regenreichste Zeit sind die Monate Februar und März. Im Allgemeinen liegen die Temperaturen in Nizza einige Grad über den Temperaturen in Deutschland.
Die Monate Juni bis August können sehr heiß werden. Die Winter sind mild, es gibt in Nizza kaum Frost. Deshalb war diese Stadt im 19. Jahrhundert ein beliebtes Winterquartier für Engländer.
Noch heute zeugen die großen Hotels und Gärten von diesem Umstand. Zu erwähnen ist, dass Nizza keinen Sandstrand, sondern einen Steinstrand besitzt. Das milde Klima begünstigt auch den Weinbau, das Weinbaugebiet um Nizza trägt den Namen Bellet.
Sprache und Bevölkerung
Die Einwohner Nizzas bezeichnet man als Nizzaer, im französischen Original Niçois. In Nizza wird teilweise ein okzitanischer Dialekt, das so genannte Nissart, gesprochen.
